All northbound and southbound lanes of the Skyway Bridge are now open following a tanker fire incident on Tuesday.
The fire started in the southbound lanes on the near the top of the bridge before 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tire on the truck blew which caused the tanker to catch fire.
It was carrying about 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
The driver was able to escape on his own and is said to have minor injuries. The truck is owned by JVS Contracting, Inc. They specialize in construction, demolition, recycling and solid waste.
Traffic was backed up for miles. For many, the detour was more than an hour out of the way.
