LUTZ, Fla. — We are helping you plan out your Super Bowl Sunday menu with two great and easy recipes that you might want to cook up all year long.
Ava Evans, the owner of Ava's Low Country Cuisine in Lutz, is sharing with us two of her favorite football-watching recipes: a delicious cheese dip and tasty lemon-honey wings.
Carolina Crab Dip
Ava says this is an easy-to-make, cheesy party dip with a coastal spin. Crabs are a staple of Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Total time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 16 oz Velveeta Mexican Cheese Block
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup medium salsa
- ½ cup shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 Tbsp freshly chopped rosemary & thyme (or preferred herbs)
- ½ cup lump of crab meat
Directions:
- Combine Mexican cheese, shredded cheddar, heavy whipping cream and salsa in med-large saucepan over medium heat, or in slow cooker.
- Once melted and well blended, stir in herbs and crab meat.
- Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until dip is smooth.
- Serve immediately with pretzels, or tortilla chips.
Lemon-Honey Wings
No Super Bowl get together is complete without a great wing. Ava says you can’t go wrong using this recipe.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs chicken wings, or drummettes/wingettes
- 1 ½ tsp sea salt
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 ½ tsp rosemary
- 1 ½ tsp ginger
- 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 4 Tbsp Sea salt Florida honey
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Place chicken in a large baking dish. Sprinkle with salt, Cajun seasoning, ginger and roast for 30 minutes.
- Combine lemon juice and honey in a small bowl and stir until well blended. Brush over chicken wings until well coated. Bake chicken for 20 minutes until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, and golden brown.
- Remove from oven and brush with remaining honey mixture.
