An Illinois mom set out to top every birthday present she’s ever given by surprising her husband and son with Super Bowl LV tickets.
And it turns out that their house is a bit divided.
Tony Werneburg has been a Bucs fan ever since he can remember, but his son is not rooting for the Bucs in the big game, “He’s a Maholmes guy, and I’m a Bucs guy,” said Tony.
It’s a little friendly competition they’ve got going on inside their home. Tony thinks the Bucs are going to win the Super Bowl, and this is what his son Ryan Werneburg has to say about that: “Good luck!”
Until yesterday, Ryan and Tony thought their competition would be restricted to the couch inside their Illinois home. But April, Ryan’s mom and Tony’s wife, had a different idea for them.
April decided to surprise Ryan ahead of his 14th birthday, which is on Super Bowl Sunday, with two tickets to Super Bowl LV.
“My wife texted me a screenshot of the actual purchase of the tickets, and I pretty much lost it. I mean, I’m not too man enough to admit that I cried like a baby,” said Tony.
Tickets that cost a pretty penny, but the time spent with his son, that’s invaluable.
“Being there with my son and being able to share that with him. That’s huge to me. His team, my team, it’s like a once in a lifetime thing,” said Tony.
The G.O.A.T. Tom Brady will meet his challenger, and Ryan Werneburg has a small piece of advice for Mahomes.
“Play hard!” said Ryan.
Simple as that!
