TAMPA, Fla. — Lilly Stern says her experience volunteering at Super Bowl LIV in Miami is one she’ll never forget.

“You could just feel the excitement everywhere we went,” said Stern.

Stern spent time at community outreach events, the opening ceremonies and even got to hobnob with celebrities.

“I got to sit next to Paul Rudd during the NFL Honors Ceremony because I was a seat filler. So I sat next to him for two hours cracking jokes," Stern said.

Now she’s ready to do it again, as a Super Bowl ambassador in her hometown as Tampa hosts Super Bowl LV.

“You are going to see the impact that this event really has on the whole city and be involved in it," said Stern.

Tampa’s Super Bowl host committee is looking for 8,000 volunteers that will cover everything from the airport to downtown and all along the Riverwalk.

“You get to meet people from all over the place while helping out and show off our amazing Tampa Bay communities so it’s really a lot of fun and excitement surrounding everything leading up to the game itself," said community ambassador program director Lisa Urban.

This year’s events are heavily impacted by COVID-19, but organizers say safety is their top priority.

“We are working very closely with the NFL to work out exactly what that plan is going to look like. Our plan is to email people to let them know the expectation and it will also be included in all the training," said Urban.

“I think everyone is still going to want to come out. They did a really good job of separating all the activities so there is a lot of space so each part on the Riverwalk is going to be its own separate entity and its own separate event," said Stern.

Volunteers need to be at least 18 and go through a background check.

You don’t get paid, but you do get to be in the middle of the action and grab some SWAG.

“I got jackets and shirts and hats, sunglasses, and water bottles. You get to be a part of something that is a part of the city’s history," said Stern.

Friday is the registration deadline to be a Super Bowl ambassador.
