TAMPA, Fla. -- After several hours of debate, the leaders of Florida's high school athletics will not push back the start of fall sports.

According to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) -- the governing body for prep sports in the Sunshine State -- football and volleyball can start at their original start date of Monday, July 27.

The decision to not delay fall sports goes against the recommendations of FHSAA's sports medicine advisers, who strongly urged postponing football and volleyball.
