TAMPA, Fla. — Dr. Alfonso Vargas works days a neonatologist taking care of newborns at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital in Tampa.
By night, he is one half of SweetLick, a popular acoustic duo rockin’ the bars and restaurants of Safety Harbor and Clearwater.
“Our jobs are so full of stress and anxiety,” Dr. Vargas says. “You’re dealing with sick infants. So music helps me re-set.”
Thursday night the rockin’ docs two worlds will collide.
SweetLick will livestream a benefit show to help get meals to frontline healthcare and emergency workers at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital ER, Morton Plant Hospital and Mease Countryside Hospital.
The event is called “Feed the Frontline: Fundraising Event with SweetLick!"
During the show, Dr. Vargas and his SweetLick partner Keith Schwier will perform a new song called “Stronger” which is getting a lot of love on Facebook and YouTube.
The song is dedicated not just to his medical peers who are so courageous in the face of coronavirus, but also to the people working at the long-shuttered bars and restaurants that used to host SweetLick shows.
“We’ve been through tough things in the past and here we stand,” Dr. Vargas says. “It’s gonna end at some point and we’ll be tougher and stronger because of it.”
