WATCH: Deputy shoots through windshield at armed suspect in Florida

Posted

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Intense body cam video shows the moments a Volusia County deputy shot through his windshield at an armed suspect who was shooting at law enforcement.

The suspect was Dillon Parker, 33, a man wanted for a Nov. 10 shooting who was facing charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and felony battery, as well as an active warrant for bond revocation on a previous charge of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

In this incident, Parker reportedly drove head-on at one Volusia County deputy and opened fire on a second before being met with return fire from another deputy and a DeLand police officer.

It happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday and ended with Parker getting shot in the chest and the leg. He is in critical condition but expected to survive. No law enforcement officers were injured.

“They’re going home tonight to their families; that’s the most important thing,” Sheriff Chitwood said of the deputies and police officer involved. “…These guys did what they had to do today. They certainly didn’t come to work to shoot somebody. But the person that they were trying to take down and arrest clearly wanted to make sure that they didn’t go home to their families.”
