OCALA, Fla. — The Ocala Police Department (OPD) is investigating a shooting at Paddock Mall where one man died and one woman was injured.
At around 3:40 p.m. Saturday, OPD received a call regarding a shooting at the Paddock Mall with multiple shots fired.
The report came over dispatch radio as an active shooter situation. OPD responded with a heavy police presence and entered the building to handle the situation.
Police later discovered that there was no active shooter but that a shooting did occur in the mall.
One adult man was found dead in a common area, and one woman was taken to the hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The deceased man was later identified as 40-year-old David Nathaniel Barron.
The suspect is believed to have fled and is at large, according to police.
Ocala Police posted photos overnight of a person of interest that show a man with a red cap and dark clothing. They appear to be taken from a mall security camera.
Police also believe this shooting may have been targeted.
