ORLANDO, Fla. — A 30-year-old orca at SeaWorld has died, according to SeaWorld Orlando.

The orca, named Kayla, died early Monday morning with her animal care specialists by her side. She reportedly started showing signs of discomfort on Saturday, January 26, and her veterinarians began treating her based on a physical examination, according to the park. They say her condition worsened on Sunday and her veterinarians and animal care specialists were devoting around the clock attention to Kayla. Unfortunately, she did not survive.

The exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem exam is completed. The park says this could take several weeks.

"The entire SeaWorld family is deeply saddened by the loss."
