TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order to impose a two-week quarantine on all travelers flying from New York, New Jersey or Connecticut to Florida in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

Gov. DeSantis says the 14-day quarantine applies to air passengers but it won't affect airline crews. He said it is too difficult to monitor those traveling to Florida through automobile.

Gov. DeSantis said criminal charges can be made for travelers breaking the self-quarantine order.

Prior to the announcement, Gov. DeSantis doubled down on his stance of not issuing a "stay-at-home" order for all Florida residents.

He added that issuing an order similar to what California, New York, Illinois and several other states did is "unadvisable" for Florida.
