VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A grandmother was arrested Tuesday in Volusia County after deputies saw her buy heroin, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office says.
Deputies say the unnamed 43-year-old had her 2-year-old grandson with her. The toddler can be seen in body camera video sitting barefoot on the ground as a deputy pats the woman down.
One of the deputies is seen picking the boy up off the ground before taking him to his patrol vehicle.
"Come here buddy. Come here, we don't need to walk in this nasty park," the deputy can be heard saying. "Grandmas out here buying dope with you, it's not good."
The deputy goes on to explain to the woman how deadly the drugs can be to her and the toddler if he were to come into contact with it.
"That’s unthinkable to most of us, but drug addiction makes the unthinkable happen in communities across the country," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "We’ll keep working to take drugs off our streets and hold offenders accountable before more lives are lost."
