The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said a man stabbed his mother while she slept early Friday morning in Royal Palm Beach.

PBSO said the crime happened at a home in the 200 block of Saratoga Blvd. East, which is near Crestwood Blvd.

The Sheriff's Office said 40-year-old Ryan Guenot admitted to attacking his mother while she was sleeping.

Guenot said he got home around 3:00 a.m. after a night out, went to sleep, then suddenly woke up and stabbed his mother, according to PBSO.

Detectives said Guenot didn't say why he attacked his mother, who underwent surgery and is now in critical condition.

Neighbors said the community is normally very quiet and peaceful and were surprised to see such a massive investigation happening next door.

"Great neighborhood," said Peter Pagliaro who lives next to the crime scene. "I mean, we know a lot of people in here and we've got friends in here and just a good neighborhood, a family neighborhood."

Guenot is now under arrest for attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

He is being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail.
