FORT MYERS, Fla. — Residents in a new Fort Myers community were welcomed to the neighborhood by a black bear this weekend.
Margit Detchins was helping her daughter move into her family's new house on Shady Blossom Drive in Fort Myers Sunday afternoon. As they watched Margit's granddaughter paint on the lanai, they noticed something outside in the backyard - a black bear strolling through the yard.
"Even though he wasn't menacing, it was just unsettling," Detchons said.
Detchons' daughter Mallory recorded a short video showing the bear roaming around their backyard.
They showed the video to Florida Fish & Wildlife, who said the bear looked healthy, and want to warn neighbors to not leave any food or trash out in the open.
