An 83-year-old Town n' Country woman is recovering after a violent home invasion robbery yesterday afternoon.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office, the woman was punched in the face and hit in the head with a "blunt metal object" several times by an 18-year-old man.

Ricardo Marquez Torres,18, is accused of breaking into the home inside of the West Bay Club mobile home park, beating the woman and then stealing a safe with $3,000 worth of jewelry inside.

A maintenance man responded to cries for help, chased Marquez Torres, tackled him to the ground and held him until deputies arrived.

Thomas Mendez Urbina,30, was also arrested. He drove Marquez Torres to the woman's home and took off in his car when Marquez Torres took off running with the safe.

The 83-year-old woman is recovering from the attack at home. Her family says her face is badly swollen.

In the past year, there have been 26 burglaries and 6 robberies within a half mile of the latest home invasion. Two of those robberies were listed as home invasion robberies as well.
