Test of bulletproof vest kills a Tampa man

Posted

Police say 23-year-old Joaquin Mendez died after asking a question to his cousin.

That question was about a bulletproof vest.

Mendez apparently asked his cousin, 24-year-old Alexandro Garibaldi, if the vest still worked

Garibaldi said "let's see" and pulled out a gun and shot Mendez, killing him.

Another person was inside the home at 2407 E Gordon Street in Tampa and saw the whole thing.

Garibaldi was arrested and charged with manslaughter and being a felon with a firearm.

The family of Mendez said they deeply hurt and didn't want to speak on camera.

They said Joaquin was a great, loving young man and they're thankful for all the prayers and support.
