TAMPA, Fla. — A local family is on the hunt for the owner of a rogue drone after it mysteriously crashed in their South Tampa yard.
Sean Fierro lives off Lois Avenue and discovered the drone Tuesday afternoon.
“My initial thought was the neighbors," said Fierro.
Fierro and his wife, Skyler, decided to investigate after no one claimed ownership for more than 24 hours.
"My husband turned it on and was taking a look at the video just to see if he could see any landmarks, any type of vehicle, anything around the neighborhood that would make sense," said Skyler Fierro.
Video from the drone's mounted GoPro shows sweeping views of South Tampa. After a few minutes, it suddenly nosedives, landing in the front yard.
The Fierro's are thankful no one was outside when the equipment came crashing down.
When reviewing the footage, Fierro discovered pictures and video of a man and a teenager launching the drone from Coleman Middle School's football field.
The family posted on the Nextdoor app and other social media sites, but so far, they have not been able to track down the owner.
"People spend quite a bit of money on these drones and you know, you could tell it had a pretty sophisticated set up so I’m sure whoever is missing it would want it back," said Skyler Fierro.
