ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Independence Day celebrations ended not with a bang but a whimper in St. Pete.
The city announced on Twitter, due to the vendor's technical difficulties it canceled the annual fireworks display that can be seen all along the waterfront.
Due to technical difficulties, we unfortunately have to cancel our fireworks show tonight. We hope everyone enjoyed their #4thofJuly2018 festivities throughout the day.

St. Pete officials say at this time they have not rescheduled the fireworks at this time.
The technical glitch is similar to one that left July 4th revelers in Tampa upset in 2017.
The fireworks display at the Channelside Bay Plaza began as scheduled last year, but ended minutes later without a grand finale. Officials blamed an equipment failure to cut short Tampa's fireworks.
