St. Pete police officer extricated after driver crashes into parked patrol car

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg officer was extricated from her patrol car after another driver hit it on Monday night.

Police says that at 9:17 p.m., a patrol officer was assisting the St. Petersburg Fire Department and Duke Energy while they repaired some downed power lines. The police officer was inside her parked patrol car with her lights activated at Melrose Ave S. and 31st Street to divert traffic.

The driver of a Lexus sedan, later identified as 66-year-old Harry Fields, crashed into the parked patrol car. The police officer was extricated and suffered non-life threatening injuries. She is hospitalized in stable condition. 

The name of the officer has not been released.

The investigation continues and charges are pending.
