GULFPORT, Fla. — Better late than never. The City of Gulfport putting on a dramatic fireworks show from Williams Pier 24 hours after thunderstorms rained out their original event.

People also got treated to a bigger and better show.  The company that was supposed to do the City of St. Petersburg’s fireworks show, Creative Pyrotechnics, canceled that show because they had technical issues.

St. Pete leaders "completely surprised" by fireworks cancelation

St. Pete officials said they didn’t want the company to do a redo because they lost confidence in them. So, instead, Creative Pyrotechnics added their unused supplies to Gulfport’s show.

Ominous rain clouds and lightning threatened Thursday’s do-over.  But, in the end, the thunderstorms stayed away from Gulfport and the show started promptly at 9 p.m. and lasted more than the 20 minutes it was planned for.

“It was very worth the wait,” Quentin Dudley said. “I loved it. I came yesterday it got rained out. Today they had a lot of extra fireworks.”

Creative Pyrotechnics has put on the St. Pete show for the past decade. City officials telling just they will not pay for last night’s failed show and will use a different company for next year.
