SARASOTA, Fla. — Investigators believe someone intentionally set a Sarasota playground on fire overnight, destroying the structure.
Investigators are treating the fire at Pioneer Park near downtown Sarasota as arson.
"Just imagine all the kids in the area who can’t play in the park anymore, because of stupidity,” said neighbor Billjo Zobrist.
Investigators said the fire happened at the park around 9 p.m. on Monday. Detectives were seen combing the park today looking for clues.
"It hurts the neighborhood a lot, because people walk their dog people don’t have anywhere else to take their kids to play,” said Zobrist.
On Friday, Sarasota Police released video of three individuals seen in the area of the playground moments before the fire.
We know this video doesn't show a lot but we're hoping it might jog someone's memory. 3 individuals were seen on camera shortly before the playground fire at Pioneer Park Monday night. Info? Call Det Morningstar @ 941-364-7338. Addt'l info @ https://t.co/I4gHuZwW5L pic.twitter.com/TW3ltSSV9j
