SARASOTA, Fla. -- A local school district leader who was at the center of a sexual harassment investigation submitted his letter of resignation in September 2019. On Tuesday, the school board voted to approve a settlement deal with Cheraina Bonner.

The resignation came just hours after the Sarasota County Schools made a recommendation to fire assistant superintendent Jeff Maultsby.

Cheraina Bonner began making reports to human resource and to the superintendent that she was being sexually harassed by Maultsby, who was her direct supervisor.

On September 3, Bonner spoke before the school board to publicly address her complaints.

"As a victim, I reported incidents of sexual harassment and hostile work environment by my superior and for weeks, nothing happened," Bonner told the school board.

Back in June 2019, the superintendent hired a third-party investigator to look into the allegations. Those findings just made public on Monday.

The 118-page investigation shows Maultsby sent hundreds of text messages unrelated to work from his personal cell phone to Bonner.
