ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. -- The City of Anna Maria Island says the Rod and Reel Pier passed inspections and will reopen Saturday morning.

This after the pier, which is home to the Rod and Reel restaurant, had been closed since Wednesday for repairs.

This week, Rod and Reel managers got a permit from the city to repair a beam that was dipping into the water.

"It felt a little wobbly," said Debbie Allbery who was on the pier before it was closed for repairs.

The other pier on the island has been closed since 2017. The historic Anna Maria Island City Pier closed after Hurricane Irma damaged it.

Construction crews are still working to rebuild it. A constructional error has pushed its opening date to mid-February 2020.

"The pier is like the hub of our city so naturally, we want it back up and running and people to be able to enjoy it as soon as we possible can," said Dan Murphy, the mayor of Anna Maria Island.
