BRADENTON, Fla. — Students at Electa Lee Middle School in Bradenton aren’t letting limitations from the pandemic stop them from helping hurricane victims in Pensacola.
Future Business Leaders of America students at Electa Lee Middle School in Bradenton have been collecting hurricane relief supplies for weeks.
"I definitely learned that even though we had limitations we can still help," said Rey, a Lee Middle School eighth-grader.
And that’s exactly what they did.
On Wednesday, students loaded up the donations they collected.
On Thursday, business teacher Richard Daenell drove a trailer full of 9,000 pounds of relief supplies to Pensacola.
Field trips are not allowed because of the pandemic so students could not go, but they were there virtually.
"We pulled them all together in the library and they were able to all be there virtually, and see the unloading and the damage," said Daenell.
Daenell said local Pensacola students helped them deliver water, food, cleaning supplies and hygiene items to shelters, churches and neighborhoods all across Pensacola.
"Them being able to see their project through from their inception, their hard work, to the end game, that’s pretty awesome," said Daenell.
Daenell says Lee Middle is still collecting non-perishable relief supplies and they could make a second trip to the panhandle to deliver them in the future.
