The family of a man murdered at Longboat Key's Zota Beach Resort is filing a lawsuit against the resort and security company employed by the resort, according to their attorneys.

Morgan & Morgan P.A. is representing the family of Timothy Hurley, who was murdered at the resort on August 4th by Darryl Hanna, Jr. The family of "Tim" Hurley spoke at a news conference on Thursday. Hurley's niece talked about Tim and his importance to the family. "I never realized how much we relied on Tim, and how much Tim really did for our family until he wasn't there anymore. He was my Dad in every sense of the word," she said. "In the last year we found out, many, little information that uh, we believe it could have been prevented, and that just makes it worse" she added.

The lawsuit alleges that Hurley's death could have been prevented.
