SARASOTA, Fla. — FDOT leaders and officials from Manatee and Sarasota Counties are looking for way to alleviate congestion on the barriers islands.
"Every meeting I go to people say 'what are you guys doing about traffic,'” said Longboat Key Commissioner Jack Daly.
He said a few of the popular options include, creating a water taxi system, establishing park and rides, and building an aerial gondola between downtown Sarasota and St. Armands Circle.
“It would be much like (a) ski lift,” said Daly.
Daly said the gondola project would be similar to those in Portland, Oregon.
Daly said FDOT leaders are still taking suggestions, but formal recommendations on the plan should be made by summer 2018.
