BRADENTON, Fla. — Turkeys are a holiday dinner staple, and they’re also a way to say thank you.

That’s why Manasota Flooring in Manatee and Sarasota counties is giving out 500 turkeys to local first responders.

"They risk their lives for us everyday. Our police officers are in the midst of gun battles at times. Our firefighters, everybody’s running out of the burning building while they’re running in," said Chris Quattlebaum, Manasota Flooring general manager.

Quattlebaum says he has a special place in his heart for what first responders because he used to be a firefighter. Now he runs his family-owned business and wants first responders to know who much the community appreciates them.

"We feel like first responders in our community are family to us," said Quattlebaum.

Law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics were all invited to stop by three different Manasota Flooring locations in Bradenton, Sarasota, and Venice to grab a turkey on Wednesday.
