SARASOTA, Fla. -- Nik Wallenda and his sister Lijana are preparing for one of the biggest performances of their lives. The brother and sister duo plan to tightrope walk over Times Square.
They’ll be 25 stories up in the air for the June 23 performance.
“It’s been a dream of mine to do something in NYC in honor of my family. My family’s first performance was at Madison Square Garden,” said Wallenda.
Wallenda said they’ve been preparing mentally and physically for the challenge for years. Several of his family members were injured while practicing in Sarasota in 2017. Nik was not injured, but his sister Lijana was injured.
He said she’s been recovering and preparing.
“She broke every bone in her face, broken arms and legs. They didn’t expect her to live,” said Nik Wallenda.
Spectators are able to watch the family practice starting Saturday at 9 a.m. next to the University Town Center in Sarasota.
