BRADENTON, Fla. — A crane has collapsed at the Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton and one construction worker has died in the accident, according to Bradenton police.
At approximately 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, several Bradenton police officers were standing outside in the parking lot of the marina when they heard a loud sound. They witnessed the crane falling and rushed to the scene. They found the construction worker trapped beneath the crane, weighs nearly a ton. The police officers could not move the crane on their own and began yelling for assistance from anyone nearby. Multiple people in the area rushed to the scene within minutes. More than 50 people were able to lift the crane off of the victim who then fell into the water when he was freed. He was quickly pulled out of the water and CPR was administered by members of the police department. Bradenton Fire Rescue arrived on scene and took over lifesaving measures. The victim could not be revived.
Another worker was transported by Manatee County EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
Tenth Street W and Third Avenue W is currently closed.
The crane is on a barge that is docked at the marina.
Emergency crews are on scene and police are asking citizens to avoid the area if possible.
Police say the construction worker has been identified as Chadwick Adam Brown, 47, of Pinellas County. He leaves behind a wife and children.
