Dimitrie Denis said he loves his home in the Samoset community, but there is one issue that’s been on his mind for months.

“We don’t have any street lights on this block,” said Denis.

He is worried about crime after the sun goes down.

“Every issue that other communities are experiencing, we are experiencing, but we don’t have lights,” said Denis.

Denis heard Governor Rick Scott was going to be in Bradenton last week, so he decided to attend the press conference. He asked Scott what his neighbors should do about this lighting issue. Scott told the community members to work together on the issue and that’s exactly what they are doing.

“We got a petition signed and submitted to the county for approval,” said Denis.

They are hoping to add about twenty new lights to the community.

County leaders said they plan to hold a public meeting in Samoset soon, but the date hasn’t been scheduled.
