The Blessing Bags Project started feeding homeless people in Manatee County more than a year ago.
“This is my family,” said project organizer Betsy Plant.
Plant’s group brought food to homeless camps, but now they have a different approach. On Tuesday they were donated a building to use as a headquarters.
“This will enable me to help more people,” said Plant.
They plan to hand out food and care packages from the new location.
Connie Smith is homeless and she’s been working with the group for several months. She said they are helping her find a job.
“They have helped a lot I’ll be able to get off the streets,” said Smith.
The group’s new location opened on Tuesday afternoon.
