MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Manatee County bus driver is being honored by the county after saving a passenger's life.
Janine McDonald said she became worried after one of her special needs passengers didn’t answer the door.
“Jesus told me to go inside and she was on the floor in a bad way, gasping for air,” said McDonald.
McDonald kept the passenger calm while she called 911. Paramedics arrived a short time later.
"They told me that if I wouldn’t have intervened, then more than likely she wouldn’t have made it,” said McDonald.
The passenger is now recovering in the hospital. McDonald said she never thought twice about helping her passenger.
"Everybody just needs to take a minute and think about the other person,” said McDonald.
Her coworkers aren’t surprised by her lifesaving actions.
“I'm not surprised at all that is the type of person she is,” said supervisor Benita Zarr.
