When Punta Gorda officer Bonnie Buckelew left her Manatee County home to report for work a day before Hurricane Irma, she didn’t know what she would come back to.

"When I left I was scared and high anxiety, not knowing if my house was going to be here when I got back, which was everything that I’ve worked for,” said Buckelew.

She was already worried for her home because she was in the process of replacing her roof.

“We put up GAF StormGuard, just hoping to seal it in a bit before we left,” said Buckelew.

She came back home four days after the storm, only to find her roof wasn’t damaged.

“I’m the type of person who likes to thank people, so we wrote a letter to the company,” said Buckelew.

GAF representatives gave the family a brand new roof for their dedication to their community.

“I feel very very lucky, like I won the lottery, I’m just so thankful and I want to pay it forward and I’m going to continue to do good things for people,” said Buckelew.
