BRADENTON, Fla. — The construction trades class at Bayshore High School in Manatee County is using a creative method to help the homeless.
“This is a shipping container it’s 160 sq. ft., about the size of a bedroom and we are going to turn it into a home,” said instructor Hudson Slaughter.
The class is teaming up with non-profits to find families to live in the containers. About three people can live in the container, they'll be similar to tiny homes. The students plan to do all the work to get the containers ready.
“There will be a bathroom and a small kitchen and a living-sleeping area,” said Slaughter.
The class plans to give the container homes to families with children in the Manatee County School District.
They hope to give out two homes per school year.
"It gives me hope, and gives them something to look forward," said student Anthony St. Louis.
