Residents on Spring Lake concerned about feces in the water

HOLMES BEACH, Fla. — Residents on Holmes Beach next to Spring Lake are fed up with the lake’s water quality.

“It’s so murky, cloudy, and almost lifeless,” said resident Boyd Grayson.

Grayson said the water used to be clear, but then a sewage spill in 2015 changed the lake’s water quality.

“It hasn’t been the same ever since,” said Grayson.

County leaders said the lake was cleaned and test results are now normal. They have no future plans to clean the lake.

Some residents said the answer from county leaders isn’t good enough for them.

"If the county would own it like they should then they should restock this lake and do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” said Tim Gibson.

Residents said they plan to petition county leaders for them to take a second look at the water quality.
