A Winter Haven High School student was hit by a vehicle while walking to her bus Thursday morning.
Winter Haven Police and the Polk County Sheriff's Office are on scene at Ave. G NW and 22nd St NW. Authorities say a 16-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle near a bus stop before 7 a.m. Thursday.
The parents of the child are at the scene.
Police say the incident resulted in serious bodily injuries and the girl was airlifted from the scene at about 6:50 a.m. Medical staff determined her injuries are non-life-threatening and she is expected to make a full recovery.
Polk Sheriff's Office says the driver did remain on scene.
The car that struck her was being driven by an 18-year-old teen who was on his way to work - he told deputies he did not see her. He was driving westbound approaching the bus.
Editor's note: Police previously reported the teen was riding her bike. Their release was later updated to say she was walking to the bus.
