WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A Winter Haven man may become Powerball’s very first millionaire of 2021.

When the clock strikes 12 on January 1, Laveral King, Jr. might become a millionaire.

“I'm ready to win. It's got my blood boiling. I really can’t explain it except, a little bit of nervousness, a little bit of anxiousness,” expressed Laveral King, Jr.

King is one of five finalists, from the 480 that qualified for Powerball's "First Millionaire of the Year" contest.

“The first purchase would be to pay off my bills, but I know my wife wants this new luxury vehicle so we’ll probably get that,” King said.

TV crews are setting up at his home to broadcast live when the winner is revealed on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC.

Like many, 2020 has been tough for the retired UPS driver, who lost his mother this year.

“She was my biggest cheerleader so, for me to win that money would go a long way and it would make me feel good,” King said.

In less than 48 hours, King will know if his life will change forever. With his mother looking down on him, he truly believes he’ll win the million dollars.

“My mom always had a saying where she would say that ‘the best is yet to come.’ I truly feel that she is my guardian angel and she is right. The best is yet to come,” King said.
