DAVENPORT, Fla. — An elementary school dean in Polk County is facing charges for domestic violence and assault after his arrest on Friday.

The sheriff's office says 32-year-old Carrington Latson swung a lamp at his wife during an argument on Friday morning, hitting her in the ribs.

Laston is an elementary teacher at Wendell Watson Elementary School in Lakeland, the sheriff's office says. According to the school's website, Laston is the Dean.

Deputies say after swinging the lamp, Latson threw it against a wall. His wife told deputies they also argued on July 4.

During that argument, his wife says Latson grabbed her by the arm and shoved her after she refused to leave the room. Latson is accused of pushing her out of the room, then chasing her upstairs where she locked herself in the master bathroom.

Latson broke open the door, according to his wife. Deputies say they observed the damaged wooden door frame.

Latson, of Davenport, was arrested for two counts battery domestic violence and one count simple assault. He was booked into the Polk County Jail without incident.
