LAKELAND, Fla. — A Polk County mom expanded her business from online to a Lakeland store during the pandemic.
Alison Hodges said her boutique started on social media in March.
"We have grown more than we thought we would especially during a pandemic. The support for the community for small business has been mind-blowing so we were nervous going into it, but it's just been incredible," said Hodges.
She has expanded her clothing boutique to a store in Dixieland.
Whiskey Way Boutique will partially open on Black Friday and on Saturday. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
She plans to fully open in January at her Lakeland location.
"We have a little bit of work to do and we want it to be perfect so that will be in January," said Hodges.
Hodges left her nursing job in 2016. She said she took a job in sales to spend more time with her family.
"I worked for a jewelry company and I was a contractor for them and I did that for years and I loved it and I kind of grew into something where I wanted it on my own," said Hodges.
Hodges hopes customers support small businesses this holiday weekend.
"I've worked really hard to make this happen and the support has been amazing, unbelievable how supportive and loving the community has been," she said.
