LAKELAND, Fla. -- A Lakeland woman says she saw a man dump a puppy, that’s when she started snapping pictures.

Danielle, a mom, was on her way to pick up her young daughter when she saw a suspicious white van parked on the side of South Pipkin Road in Lakeland.

The same time she pulled over, Danielle says spotted a cage with a young dog inside.

“Was a little brown puppy, it couldn’t have been more than a few months old,” she said.

First, she called animal control and then posted this to Facebook:

“That poor puppy was skin and bones …. I’m glad me and a few other cars seen what happened and helped this poor puppy and I’m glad my new phone's quick at taking pics. That poor puppy was drinking the water fast he was so hot.” She posted.

Danielle says the puppy was soaked in urine and looked neglected.

“It was just skin and bones it had a sore on its butt ya know it was just so scared it didn’t know what to do. It didn’t know whether or not to chase him and the cars were coming by,” Danielle said.

Animal Control tells ABC Action News the offense is considered a misdemeanor. They went on to tell us the dog does not have any serious injuries, but they are looking to identify the driver of the white van.

The dog is now in possession of Animal Control. If you’d like to adopt it, click here and search for ID#A995488.
