LAKELAND, Fla. — A pedestrian is dead after he was hit by a vehicle in Lakeland on Friday.
Lakeland police said at approximately 8:34 p.m., a white Ford E250 was traveling on Kathleen Road in the outside lane. As the Ford van approached the 1200 block of Kathleen Road, a pedestrian darted out into the road.

The pedestrian was later identified as Collis Holley.
Holley was attempting to cross the roadway in an area not marked for pedestrian traffic with little lighting. The driver of the van, Eric Trisch, attempted to turn left to avoid Holley but was unsuccessful.
Trisch hit Holley and pulled over to come to a stop.
Emergency medical professionals arrived on the scene and began assisting other officers in providing life-saving measures. Holley was transported to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.
Due to the incident, the roadway was shut down for about three and a half hours while the scene was being investigated.
