LAKELAND, Fla. — Lakeland Electric announced on Monday evening it would no longer be disconnecting power over nonpayment during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Lakeland Electric is committed to providing dependable energy service and minimizing the spread of COVID-19," the company said. "We also know that as the impacts of the virus spread, our customers will face uncertainty and may experience financial difficulties. That is why we are immediately suspending service disconnections for non-payment until further notice."
The company joins Duke Energy and TECO, who made similar announcements.
