LAKELAND, Fla. — A head-on crash in Lakeland took the lives of two motorists, the Polk County Sheriff's Office says.
Deputies say it happened around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Main Street and Reynolds Road.
Deputies say 64-year-old Delbert Kendall was driving a blue Ford Focus eastbound on Main Street.
According to the sheriff's office, for unknown reasons Kendall crossed the center line into the path of a tan Subaru Forester that was driven by 40-year-old Case Hurst.
Hurst and Kendall both died at the scene. The roadway was closed for nearly four hours while the sheriff's office investigated.
No other vehicles or people were involved, deputies say.
