Florida sergeant, former marine dies from complications of COVID-19

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida sergeant and former United States Marine Corps Marine died from complications of COVID-19 Sunday.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office shared the passing of Sergeant James LaRue. He recently worked at the Department of Corrections in Polk County.

Sgt. LaRue served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1996.

The sheriff's office said it's not believed that Sgt. LaRue contracted COVID-19 while working at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

The sheriff's office will also treat his passing as a Line of Duty Death.
