LAKELAND, Fla. — Ray Gunder wants to see the guys in his surveillance video caught.
“You feel violated knowing somebody’s in your property stealing what you’ve worked hard for.”
He recorded the video in the early morning hours last Thursday.
And says it shows a group going car to car in his North Lakeland neighborhood.
In the video, you see a person wearing gloves with a shirt over their head get into Ray’s truck.
The person comes out with a battery jump pack worth about $100.
Ray says the thieves broke into about nine neighbors’ vehicles.
“When they hit the vehicles, they take everything they get their hands on. Guns, change, gift cards. Anything that’s in the vehicles they take.”
During the pandemic, some cities around the U.S. are reporting a rise in car burglaries.
Authorities say it could be tied to a combination of things like more cars at home because people are driving less and both criminals and teenagers out of work.
As always, the best way to prevent break-ins is to lock your doors.
“I harp at my grandson and my wife on locking their doors every night and I’m the one that made the mistake.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this latest string of car burglaries.
They say they arrested two people involved in stealing a Jaguar from this neighborhood in July.
