KATHLEEN, Fla. -- The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has a warning for homeowners making repairs after the tornado this past weekend.

Multiple complaints came into county emergency management about suspicious companies offering repair services.

Deputies said watch out for scammers trying to take advantage of homeowners after the storm.

Contractors may come to your neighborhood promising to fix your house, but end up not delivering or putting in a subpar replacement.

Deputies said homeowners should do their homework and see if a company is insured, has a license, and make sure to get references from friends and family to see who they have used in the past.

If a company seems off, call the sheriff’s office.

Complaints had been coming into emergency management, but nobody filed an official report with the sheriff’s office, as of Wednesday afternoon.
