POLK CITY, Fla. — A dead bat in Polk City has tested positive for rabies, making seven confirmed cases in Polk County so far this year.
The sheriff's office says the bat was found dead in a dog kennel area of a home on Derosa Road on August 6. It was confirmed positive on August 9.
Animal control says five dogs had access to the area, but were all up-to-date on their vaccinations.
“Please make sure your animals are up to date on their vaccinations. This is a great example of responsible pet ownership.” Grady Judd, Sheriff
