An Auburndale man was arrested after he reportedly tried to hit Winter Haven Police Officers with his car early Friday morning.

At about 2:08 a.m., officers responded to a call of someone banging ona residential home window at 1908 Fairfax Ct. NE in Winter Haven.

The resident said a man was banging on her window for no apparent reason. When officers arrived, they found a silver Ford F-150 sitting in the yard next door with parking lights on and the car running.

As officers approached they saw 41-year-old Michael Harris in the driver's seat.

Officers reportedly made numerous requests for Harris to get out of the vehicle, but Harris put the car in gear and drove the car towards officers. They jumped out of the way, then began a pursuit.

During the chase Harris began driving recklessly, leading police to turn off emergency equipment and follow at a safe distance.

Harris stopped the truck near 20175 Alderman Rd. where officers from Auburndale PD assisted.

Harris tried to run but was caught and taken into custody. In a search of the truck, officers found methamphetamine and a large knife within reach from the driver's seat.

Harris was charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of possession of a weapon by a felon, fleeing to elude at reckless-high speed, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
