POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- An 8-year-old boy was killed in an ATV crash in Polk County over the weekend.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a crash in a wooded area near the River Ranch Hunt Club in Lake Wales Saturday night. According to deputies, the boy was driving an ATV and was riding around with other ATV drivers on a sandy trail.
During the ride, the boy lost control of the ATV, flew out of his seat before the ATV overturned and rolled onto him. The boy was taken to the hospital in Orlando, where he was later pronounced dead. No one else was hurt in the crash.
According to deputies, the 8-year-old boy was not wearing a helmet.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
