All railroad crossings reopened in Lakeland after fatal train accident investigation

LAKELAND, Fla. — Several railroad crossings were closed in Lakeland due to a fatal train investigation Wednesday morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

According to deputies, a train struck and killed 58-year-old Randolph Rhymes in the area of Combee Road and Highway 92. Deputies believe Rhymes was sleeping between the rails when he was hit. No foul play is suspected.

Deputies said the following railroad crossings, which are parallel to Highway 92, would be closed for several hours on Wednesday, however they have all since reopened.

  • Fairway Avenue
  • Combee Road
  • Fish Hatchery Road
  • Reynolds Road
