LAKE WALES, Fla. — Social media and a Good Samaritan are receiving high praise for helping recover a double-amputee’s stolen trike.
“My son is a bi-lateral amputee, meaning he has two prosthetic legs,” said Josias Suarez. “So with him, he’s not able to catch himself if the bike were to fall over.”
Isaias, 12, says the trike allows him to never miss out on life’s best moments with friends.
“When I got this bike, I was like yeah that’s going to be cool because I’ll be able to ride with all my friends now.”
The Suarez family said someone stole the trike from their Lake Wales property on Sunday while they were at church.
They alerted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and also posted about the theft on Facebook. The post was shared by hundreds of users and in a matter of hours, someone spotted the stolen item.
“She saw the post in the morning and later on in the afternoon actually saw a gentleman riding the bike that looked like ours,” said Suarez.
Monday night deputies reunited Isaias with his trike, allowing him to get back to do what he loves most.
“I’m going to get back into riding down the road as fast as I can, still being careful and riding around with my friends.”
ABC Action News confirmed Polk deputies arrested a man on Monday for the crime. They say the case is still under investigation.
